All junk food marketing within theme parks will remain at the eye-level of a 4 year old.

College students on food stamps.
“I did not even know that I was applicable for food stamps until someone told me about the site and to apply to see if I would get it.”
Added Smith, “Since then, I have saved a ton of money.”
I remember being a cash-strapped and hungry college student. My solution was to get a job at the school cafeteria. Minimum wage at a crappy job, but it was an easy job to get since no one else wanted it, and you got to eat when you worked. There were lots of days when the only two meals I ate were immediately before and immediately following my shift. I never even considered there may be a better different way.
‘Blue Christmas’ drug bust targets illegal prescription drug sales in Brevard – Big day tomorrow for mugshots!
Tools vs insight – I am Jack’s complete astonishment that Seth Godin can come up with these amazing posts for his blog on a daily basis. I would read it in a box, and I would read it with a fox.
Does Beer Affect Your Training? – I was warned not to read this, but I did anyway. Dammit.
Rethinking the Value of the Brick Run for Long Course Triathlon – And here I was thinking I was bucking the system by doing “rested bricks” on the weekends. Sounds like I may have been on to something.
How to Make a Citizen’s Arrest – Yes!

Stop Trying to Coach People Who Shouldn’t Be Coached! – This applies to so many people in so many situations. And I’ve been all four of these people at one time or another as well. I try my best to be coachable though.
Proper Pacing for Your Best Run – I’ve always just used HR control on the bike and tried to build a good run with negative splits with whatever I had left. There are some good ideas here I could definitely use to improve at different distances.
Cuba Libre! – Check out @hungrymother featured in this article!
A Food Label That Actually Teaches You About Food – There should be a “nom nom” graph on there somewhere too.
If you ever worked in fast food, did your manager(s) track the number of items you had to take back when orders were wrong? Did they factor in the number of people who were unhappy with their order but were probably already home and didn’t want to bother taking it back?
How To Move Your Facebook Photos To Picasa – Get them over to Picasa/GooglePhotos/Plus. One step closer to ditching Facebook forever.
Facebook blocks Google Chrome extension for exporting friends – It’s ON! HT @slashdot.
Fast-food chains selling alcohol – HT @FrankStrovel. I will not rest until I can get a Cherry-Vodka-Limeade straight from the drive-up window.
RunKeeper Building ‘The Facebook Of Fitness’ – I started using RunKeeper when it became free, and at the time it was just the mobile app that drew me to it. I was using DailyMile as my “Fitness Facebook”, but was pretty frustrated at having to keep transferring from one system to the other. Looks like DailyMile may have missed the boat. I’ll know more when I’m able to work out more regularly.
The 5 Switches of Manliness: Nature – The last post in this series. Every one of them was a great and worth reading.
The newly designed visual that tells us what we should be eating is going to be revealed today. That’s probably a good thing, since no one was paying to much attention to the Food Pyramid as the chart below shows.
Since Al Gore has taught us that correlation and causation are interchangeable, it makes sense to blame the jump in obesity starting in the early 80s on Atari. I’m not sure what George W. Bush was doing during that time, but there’s probably plenty of blame for him too.
Of course, the real reason for the jump in obesity is that people consume more calories than they burn. They don’t exercise and don’t pay attention to the food pyramid, or any other reasonable recommendations. You know, they’d rather just eat stuff like this.
It probably would have made more sense to ditch the Food Pyramid for a Food White Castle, Food Pizza Hut, or some other more modern structure that people do want to acknowledge.
Just brainstorming.
Shrimp and grits inspired by a Throwdown–the best of both recipes. My boredom with food was temporarily paused. The Missus cooks good groceries.
Nonacademic Skills Key to Success – Crazy idea…let’s assign two people to each child born in this country to make sure they learn these intangible skills like reliability and work ethic. We can call these people “Parents”. Even if we can only get one good one per child, it will be progress.
16 Yummy Slow Cooker Desserts – Tadow!
Ransoming Someone for an XBox 360? – HT @MichaelSilence If you owe me ~$100 (and you know who you are), hope we don’t have a mutual friend who owns an Atari 2600 with several cartridges.
Social networking under fresh attack – I don’t think it’s the “devil in his self”. Obviously. But, I doubt I’m only person in the world who thinks it’s rude to see a person I’m sitting with IRL grab their phone every time it makes the slightest little noise. The message there is, “I’m not sure who this is or what they want, but it has to be more interesting than this.” It’s not so much the social media and texting I get annoyed with so much as it is the inability for people to sit comfortably without it.
Fight Club: The Musical – I am Jack’s feeling that Tyler Durden would not approve. HT to @raowen!
10 Reasons Why Socrates is Still Relevant Today – I’m glad the title of this article isn’t “10 Reasons Why Socrates is Still Alive and Kicking”. Someone would assuredly be shocked that he’s still walking among us. Saw someone make that mistake regarding Shakespeare. True story.
General Knowledge on Oil and Gas – Found this looking up the term “middle of the barrel”. Pretty interesting. Ok, not really, but I didn’t know the whole process.
339 Puke Synonyms – Because we’ve been overusing all the standard material at our house lately.
Digital Distractions – I like this Seth Godin post. I do–I really like the point of it. What I like best is how many times it’s been Shared and Re-Tweeted. And I just added another. 🙂
Most Productive Home Working Location? – For me, there has to be a desk. Actually, a complete office environment, just like you’d have at the Office-office. Bookshelves, printer, filing cabinet, etc. But, longer reading works better on a couch/futon.

WordPress Theme Anatomy – Great quick reference if you are just getting started with WP or need a quick reminder of how everything is structured.

Amazing Beans: Black Lentils/Kidney/Garbanzo – Giving this a shot soon.
YOU are Superman – Mamapedia™ Voices – “If eight park moms and one visionary principal could pull our little neighborhood school out of its twenty-five year nose-dive, surely others could do the same thing. If Waiting for Superman could spark a national grassroots school reform movement that would pull us all out of the giant mess we’re in, now wouldn’t that be something?”
A ‘Do-Over’ on the Mortgage Market? Project Mayhem Fallout – I won't even entertain the idea, but it's an entertaining read.

Tooth Regeneration Gel Could Replace Painful Fillings – Just ordered up some jelly beans to celebrate this news.
Facebook Places vs. Foursquare – Foursquare has a game/awards (kinda). The question with FB places is “why?”. Then again, you could probably ask that question about 90% of the content there.
Furman’s FIRST Running Program – No. Junk. Miles.
Lifehacker: Our List of the Best Android Apps – Already using most, so I’m linking to this mostly to validate my choices.
“I think the Internet is the most dangerous thing invented since the atomic bomb” –John Mellencamp – Sounds like Johnny Cougar doesn’t like having his cheese moved.

101 Fast Recipes for Grilling – Grillicious! Can't wait to get back to regular grilling. And by that I mean entertaining the kids in the pool while the real grill master does her thing.
Dishwasher Rules to Clean By – The "Quick Rinse" is my new favorite dishwasher feature.
Fannie Mae Cracks Down on Strategic Default – Do you really need someone to tell you that "strategically" defaulting on a mortgage is wrong? Sorry, but I don't feel pity for someone who is behind on their mortgage while they have sea doos and dirt bikes in their garage.
Chick-fil-A does marketing right.
Thanks to a heads up from CouponKatie, we were treated to a sneak preview of Chik-Fil-A’s new spicy chicken sandwich for lunch yesterday, a week before they plan to make it available on the menu. Ok, that’s great. But they did a great job of marketing this new product. So despite being delicious (it was), they’ve also created a buzz:
So props to Chik-fil-A for creating a good product–it really was good. But what a great marketing job. I hope more companies become savvy to these type tactics. It’s in their best interest, and people with reservations love that kind of treatment. They sometimes even write complimentary blog posts about these experiences–more free marketing!
Selling free food is now known as “entrepreneurial foraging“. It’s for the ubercool only.
When Walmart carries organic frozen dinners and even your neighbor with the Hummer is touting the environmental efficacy and bonus deliciousness of peaches grown within a 50-mile radius of the neighborhood co-op, foraging represents the next link on the food chain of greener-than-thou eating.
This is sort of like charging panhandlers $2 the morning after a kegger to scavenge for yard beers and empty cans for recycling. In my day, we were just happy they were willing to come by and clean up after us. It was a voluntary symbiotic relationship before the Wall Street Fat Cats got involved.
Consumer debt will hold back spending, holding back economic growth. – Don't be ridiculous. We just have to "get banks lending again". Right.
Booze Camp Nashville – EVERY city needs something like this. You can keep your geek breakfast.
Teenagers Are Kind of Over Blogging – I think that headline is a little misleading. It should have read, "Like, Teenagers Are, Like, Kind of Over, Like, Blogging?"

Bagged salad: how clean are packaged salads? – {insert your own joke using the word "toss" here}
Punching a Dude in the Face For Jesus – Love the marketing innovation here.
UI Concepts for Chromium Tablet – I like that Apple has set the bar so low on pricing. That's good for all of us, especially as competitors pop up.
Lost: 16 Hopes For The Final Season – I actually don't agree with a lot of these. For instance, I don't think Charles and Jacob are at the top of the battle for the island. Jacob maybe, but Charles is a mortal. I think.
