Oh yeah, this is going to go over really well…
First, it was kegs, then couches. Now, Cocoa Beach will consider banning booze on the beach.
It’s a sad day when a man can’t sit on his couch and drink a coldbeer (on the beach). Why don’t they just ban “acting-like-a-drunk-idiot”. That would give them the ability to not only persecute the intoxicated, but also the people who are stupid without the help of alcohol.
I will admit that there have been times that drinking coldbeer and acting like an idiot weren’t necessarily mutually exclusive for me. It’s a long process, but that’s actually how one learns to eventually enjoy one without the other.
I say we go after the people who leave their cigarette asses on the beach first.
We saw a couple of these Portugese Man O’ Wars washed up on Satellite Beach yesterday as the tide was coming in. We were cheering for them to make it back out to open water, but not enough to get close enough to catch them. Tenacles up to 50 meters long and possible interference with heart and lung functionality? No thanks…
I posted my video of the STS 129 launch a couple of weeks ago. The SIL just posted a link to this footage on her FB page. It’s slightly more dramatic than my video. Then again, I didn’t have time to edit.

Well, clouds were low, so we couldn’t see every second, but it was nice weather to be out at the beach to watch the Atlantis launch for STS-129. And it was so windy that we never actually heard the launch. Here’s a better video from closer up of the July 4, 2006 launch.

I’ve read a lot of stuff about the benefits of barefoot running. I went for my first barefoot run of any real distance (3m) yesterday on the beach. It was definitely more work on the calves, but I’m not sure if that was from being barefoot or from the sand, which I’m not used to running in. One thing that’s really nice about beach running (at least here) are the multiple parks spaced out that allow you to stop for water and a cool shower.
I’m still debating the Nike Free and also the Vibram FiveFingers. I’m going to give it a few more chances completely bare, but the sand is rough on the toes.
